Tomatoes harvest has begun

Many harvests from a single potato plant

I just acquired an idea from havenyt about the pot assembly that can be used to harvest potatoes many times from a single plant. Here is my version of double pot by using black builder buckets.

Step 1:

You need two buckets of same size so that they can be stacked together. By using a power saw cut the first bucket as shown in the pictures. so the sides becomes open. This will allow the potatoes to be harvested.

Step 2:

Drill some holes in the base of the same first bucket. place this bucket then in the second bucket and the assembly is done.

Step 3: fill the bucket with compost and sow your potatoes in it, or if you have pre-sown potato plant that is ready to replant.. put that in the center of bucket and fill the bucket all the way up...

Step 4: Water the plants well and then wait. please check with your potato variety to estimate the harvesting time.

Step 5: If you want to check that if there are some potatoes ready then lift the first bucket up by firmly holding the second bucket. Harvest any potatoes that are ready and leave others. The plant will hopefully set new potatoes also..

New Green House has born

Finally I managed to complete my GH few days back and its looking wonderfull

Birth of a new Green House

Couple of weeks back, I grabbed a nice offer for a green house and now its time to assemble it.. I waited the whole week for the windy weather to calm down...The frame is erected and now next task is to lift the frame and place it over the base of the GH and then install the door and the glass to finish it off...Some plants watched me assembling it and they are already dreaming to be the first one to get in there. :)

Coriander was sown in modules and in few days it germinated. The next batch of another variety is already sown

Basil seed disc were sown couple of weeks ago. They also germinated within a week and now going nicely.

From Seedling to Plants

It took a while before I re-potted the tomato seedlings. But after I repotting they are responded nicely and are now nice young plants

BroadBeans

first batch of ( hestebønner eller vælske bonner) broad beans which were sowed 24 feb. are now planted out in their final position in the raised beds. The second batch and third batch will follow soon.

Starting Gardening Year 2010

The new gardening year has finally started today, though there is still no hope of good weather in the next 3 to 4 weeks, the average temperature is still below zero and night temperature are hitting as l0w as -10 degrees . Besides all these odds, the I sowed following seeds today

At this time of the year, its nice to see carrots coming up the ground. I only sowed few rows as a experiment but besides poor soil preparation they did acceptable well. Cheers

A lot of white radishes we harvested a week ago.. some of them were eaten and cooked right away while others were frozen for later use

Mizuna Mustard

Mizuna Mustard is growing nicely and start taking the pace too.

Tomatoes

A handful of tomatoes. Rest of the tomotoes are still turning red. These of type Gemini which are particularly suited for outdoor growing.

Herb and Salad rasied Bed

From Top to down. Corriander, Mustard Mizuna , Mustard Southern Giant and Fenugreek (methi). I am also growing fenugreek in couple of containers..

Turnips

After a regular check on caterpillars, the turnips are doing great now...

chilli seed germinated in couple of days

I put some chilli seeds in the compost from the dried thai chilli which are sold in supermarket and they germinated in a couple of days. I then replanted each seedling into its individual pot. As there were 15 seedlings I got the idea to use emptied milk carton as a pot too. I just cut away the top of the carton and made a small hole at its bottom.. I hope that the plants will survive the winter indoors.

Attack of the Caterpillars Army

These days butterflies are flying around leaving their eggs on the leaves of cress and turnips. There are around 20+ caterpillars in the picture which i picked from the small container with cress. Many more were found on the turnips leaves too.

French Radish

The French Radish from my garden. The Seeds were three years old but still they germinated well and produce really long tasty radishs.

Plums From the 3 year old tree

Last year I planted a two year old plum tree which gave descent amount of plums this year considering its size..

today we plucked some apples, lettuce and some dwarf beans from our garden. It was raining in the afternoon because of that I couldnt work on my patio .. .
